last weekend

Today is Sunday evening, and it also happens to be the last day of a three day weekend.  Although it feels as if I've been quite lazy and spent most of the time loafing around, if I compile all the things I did, maybe it'll feel like I've been quite busy.  Let's see ...

On Friday, I switched my phone from the Apple iPhone to an old (my wife's retired) Motorola Android.  I'm switching to the Droid so that I can give more "mom-friendly" iPhone to my mom.  After getting it activated with Verizon, I spent an hour or so, downloading apps and configuring the phone.  I think using a new phone, learning how it works and using the new operating system, is akin to traveling to a foreign country.  It is uncomfortable and things are hard to find, but it's also enlightening to see how the "locales" go about doing things.  In the end, assimilation must be easier on the tech side, because I can hardly notice that I'm using a new phone now.

For dinner, we had reuben sandwiches.  There's not much more I can say about that, just that I love reuben sandwiches.

The last notable item on Friday was that we watched a few episodes of Mad Men.  We're up to episode 3 or 4 now.  I can't say that I'm a fan yet, but I'm interested.  My lasting impressions at this point are ... we're watching people of a different era, so it's no wonder that they act, dress and think differently.  Hopefully, after the novelty of the differences wear off, there's something left that still interests me.

On Saturday, we had bagels on our roof top deck in the morning and had a couple of late night pizzas at Pizza Park.  In between, we saw the movie, Hunger Games.  The movie was a typical block-buster movie that is based on a book.

On Sunday, I watched the Knicks beat the Bulls (on t.v.).  The game was great.  Iman Shumpert played an amazing defensive game on Derrick Rose.  He didn't gamble, he stayed in front of D-Ros as much as possible, and deflected a bunch of balls.  Also, Carmelo demonstrated that he was clearly the most skilled and potent offensive player on either team.

My wife cooked an authentic Korean meal, consisting of cha-dol bae gi and duen jang ji gae.  This is similar to super thin cuts of steak like shabu-shabu and an intensely salty/spicy soup most similar to chili.

Oh yes, I also spent some time throughout the weekend working on Ruby tutorials, focusing on creating new User models.

So, if you are keeping track, the highlighted food items from my weekend are:
- reubens, bagels, pizza and korean
with entertainment of:
- Mad Men, Hunger Games and the Knicks.
